Ainscough Mill: Sprint Tile Case Study

Set in the heart of West Lancashire, a former steam-powered corn mill that fell into disuse has been refurbished into stylish apartments with a hint of Victorian charm. Located on the banks of the beautiful Leeds-Liverpool canal in the village of Burscough, the Grade II listed mill has a rich history and has kept the original façade, which needed to be preserved amidst its modern, residential transformation. Joseph Hamilton Seaton (JHS) supplied the Sprint Tiles for the communal landing and stairs, to immediately set a clean, modern tone for the apartments. The Carpet Store NW chose the tiles for their colour and performance qualities, working with the client Persimmon Homes to install the products.

Bold colours

The fresh white interiors of the communal areas benefit from the pops of colour provided by the deep crimson Sprint Tile, while the soft and welcoming charcoal grey complements the muted décor. The desire to create this colour scheme is what initially made The Carpet Store NW select our products, which are made from 100% solution dyed nylon. The combination of colours made it a practical carpet installation as well as an aesthetic one. Dark tones mean that dirt from the regular footfall remains masked, and the loop pile carpet tile is also perfect for the communal nature of the area, as it is easy to clean and stain resistant.

Hard-wearing

The client, Persimmon Homes, sourced our carpets from The Carpet Store NW, and were looking for high performance carpets that were hard-wearing enough to withstand the footfall of the 56 new apartments. Sprint Tiles are incredibly hard-wearing, and suitable for extreme heavy commercial use, with a respectable class 33 commercial rating. The carpet was designed to give peace of mind with a 10-year Commercial Wear Guarantee, standing as a testament to its long-lasting capabilities.  As for the installation process, The Carpet Store NW remarked on how ‘smoothly’ the process went, with the tiles being great to fit. As a heavy-duty precision cut product, the Sprint carpet tile range is perfectly suited for this residential use. The tiles have a non-woven primary backing and a bitumen secondary backing, which improves the overall fibre bond of the carpet.

Noise cancelling

As our product also features on the stairs of the property, it is beneficial that our Sprint tiles have an impact noise rating of 25 dB. This effective sound absorbency can block the sound of footfall up and down the stairs and helps to match the quietness of the project’s rural surroundings. With a 5.5 mm thickness, installing deep carpet tiles such as these is a simple, cost-effective way to soundproof a building where it has potential to cause disruption.

Our skill

When asked for their experience working with JHS, the Carpet Store NW said: ‘It’s always a pleasure working with JHS. The representative, sales and delivery drivers all delivered on quality and timeliness throughout the entire project.’ Our work at Ainscough Mill involved working with Persimmon Homes and The Carpet Store NW to identify which of our products would suit their needs, delivering the hardwearing qualities this project demanded.
